Ashlyn Macnamara weaves a delicious tale of two souls torn apart by circumstance and reunited by fate—perfect for fans of Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, and Sabrina Jeffries.
Henrietta Upperton is about to marry Alexander Sanford when he rushes off to India to salvage his family’s fortune. Then comes the devastating news that he has wed another. Eight agonizing years later, a storm washes Alexander ashore—injured, widowed, and hunted—and one glimpse of his ruggedly handsome face reawakens the desire Henrietta thought she had buried deep inside. Her body still yearns for his touch, but she’s determined not let him wound her again . . . not this time.
For Alexander, honor always comes first. But only now does he realize that when given the choice between two virtuous deeds, he picked the wrong one. On the run with his life in tatters and a pair of daughters in tow, Alexander burns for Henrietta. He knows he does not deserve forgiveness. And yet he longs to wrap his arms around her warm body once again. What’s more, he is sure the lady craves the same.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Succumbed to the depth of this story's outrageous events and scolding hot rekindling romance between the two main characters, Alexander and Henrietta.
After that night Alexander is brought to Lady Epperlay's manor, the place Henrietta is currently residing in as a paid companion, get ready for the hysteria to begin. Henrietta alone is fighting her feelings that are resurfacing for the sudden appearance of her intended from 8 years ago. Alexander never had forgotten Henrietta in all the years he spent in India trying more or less stay alive while stabilizing his family's financial crisis that his father left them behind in. Now back in England, many things have changed, while others were still there after all those years.
Henrietta's personality was a perfect depiction of a strong, intelligent, and kind woman that was heartbroken and faced with many obstacles in life that she overcame greatly.
Alexander is a true man of honor, no matter what pain he caused upon Henrietta. He is a brave, loyal, loving gentleman that did what he thought was right at the given moment and even still, after years passing, did he make an effort in upholding his honor and right all his wrongs. Although, at times he went about it the wrong way, his intentions were good.
Danger lurked at every turn in India, and without a doubt followed overseas to England.
Both Alexander and Henrietta are demanding answers, but are still at a loss. Satya is also keeping a look out, but at one crucial moment loses focus....
Therefore, the beginning of the fallout.
The story was action-packed, scandalous, thrilling, and compassionate. It made all the stops.
Overall, this historical tale was incredibly fast-paced and very well written. I definitely look forward to the next book in the series.
